Project Overview: 

This project helps improve the health and visibility of our organizations website by focusing on performance audits and simple SEO enhancements. Learners will use free tools to analyze page speed, mobile responsiveness, and basic on-page SEO. They’ll document issues, suggest improvements, and help implement quick wins.

Project Duration: 6 Weeks

Project Hours: 150

Project Scope & Expectations:

Learners will engage in: 

• Reviewing site performance using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix
• Identifying SEO errors such as broken links, missing tags, or large uncompressed images
• Recommending and helping implement simple visibility and usability improvements
• Documenting progress and sharing results through reports and walkthroughs

Project Timeline & Deliverables:

Week 1: Site Familiarization & Audit Setup (~2 hours per learner)

• Understand the purpose of the organization’s website
• Run initial performance and SEO scans using free tools

Week 2: Speed & Mobile Responsiveness Check (~4 hours per learner)

• Assess mobile usability and load speed
• Identify large files, conflicting scripts, or formatting issues

Deliverable: Website Speed & Mobile Optimization Checklist (Google Docs or PDF format)

Week 3: SEO Health Review (~6 hours per learner)

• Audit metadata, link health, and keyword structure
• Use Google Search Console or SEO SiteCheckup to verify visibility

Deliverable: SEO Fixes Report (summary of SEO issues with screenshots and recommendations)

Week 4: Quick Win Implementation (~6 hours per learner)

• Work with employer to apply easy changes (image compression, alt tags, link redirects)
• Track improvements using audit tools

Deliverable: SEO & Performance Fix Log (before/after issue tracking table)

Week 5: Final Audit & Documentation (~6 hours per learner)

• Run final website scans to confirm improvement
• Document progress and list future improvement ideas

Deliverable: Before & After Comparison Report (side-by-side metrics with commentary)

Week 6: Project Summary & Handoff (~6 hours per learner)

• Deliver a final summary of findings and walkthrough for the employe

Deliverables: Website Optimization Summary (Google Doc or PDF overview) & Presentation Deck or Loom-Style Video Walkthrough

Working Expectations:

Learners are expected to receive practical real world job experience in exchange for completion of tangible deliverables of a successfully completed project. Employers are expected to provide mentorship, guidance, and clear expectations to students and regular communication with the AscentUP team.
