Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Arizona State University to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this course will explore the entrepreneurial opportunities in nutrition, food service, wellness and health communications. This course also meets the Experiential Learning criteria which includes 45 hours of hands-on experience.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

A final project deliverable might include:

A team business idea pitch to their mentor/supervisor.

The pitch includes the following:

1) Attention-grabbing opening statement.

2) Introduction of the team.

3) The “problem” the team is identifying.

4) The product and how it solves the problem.

5) Target market and marketing strategy.

6) Competition.

7) Team members' area of expertise.

8) Financial summary / projections.

9) Call to action.

Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrating effective written communication about an innovative product or service.
  • Articulating an idea, business model, revenue source(s), and business plan for an innovative product or service.
  • Identifying and describing corporate structures, components of a business plans, and financial sources for start-up ventures.
  • Preparing for various career options including establishing their own health & wellness coaching business, working on a collaborative care team in a medical practice, implementing wellness programs in a corporate setting, or using their training in combination with their current position or a combination of any of these.
  • Pitching a business idea to mentor.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

How is your project relevant to the course?

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.
