Project Examples

Starting this January, Master's student-consultants will spend 600 hours per team developing a design engineering solution for a challenge of your choice.

Based on your needs, students will apply methods, principles, and practices in consideration of design safety, sustainability, and professional ethics to create a unique solution for your design problem.

The students will perform a needs analysis with specifications for the solution, document and describe the problem solution, and build a working prototype for your use.

Project tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Proposal refinement
  • Needs assessment
  • Conceptual design
  • Embodiment design
  • Design verification
  • Design project communication

Example project topics include:

  • Advanced manufacturing applications
  • Medical assistive devices design
  • Commercial product design
  • Automotive design
  • Accessibility design
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Weekly meetings with the student team are advised to ensure best results.

Provide a dedicated contact who will be available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address student’s questions or provide additional information.

3 Design Review Meetings will need to be convened with your organization representative(s) and their student team(s) at intervals.
