Details

Translate American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) guidelines to develop a nursing

protocol for patient with neurological/traumatic spinal cord injuries that can be used in the acute care and rehabilitation settings.


Student Involvement:

Collaborative development of a protocol, possibly present to nursing practice council


Resources Required:

ASIA SCI program in neuroanatomy (ASTEP) and urinary incontinence management (UroSTEP)($50 course x 2).

Remote development of the guidelines. Access to academic/hospital library. Access to Word,

Powerpoint (or equivalent)

Deliverables

Expected Outcomes & Deliverables:

An protocol that can be applied to patients that addresses incontinence and prolonged catheterization in patients with spinal cord injuries

-goals are to improve continence in patients

-use most relevant best practices to assess

-reduce CAUTI in patients living with SCI

-help patients and families master bladder management tools to facilitate discharge home

-start the process of a standardized approach to incontinence management across the corporation.
