empathy algorithms chatbot new product developmentIn collaboration with a non-profit organization Victim Services, we educate teens ages 13 -24 years on prevention of sex trafficking using a game called Likely Story. We must reach teens who are most at risk and all teens are our primary user. Our secondary audience is educators, parents and supporting organizations.
We’d like students to help analyze our game, its datasets and find ways to better draw helpful insights. How might we leverage algorithms to personalize the game so that we can reach more teens and measure our impact? It should also align with our three (3) core goals for teens to 1) Increase risk-perceptions of predatory behaviors on and offline 2) Motivate peer-to-peer conversations about healthy and unhealthy scenarios and increase empathy 3) Guide teens to take action to prevention and intervention.
Personalization may include for example, serving up tailored content (i.e by age, demographic, etc) or surfacing 'smarter' resources.
Recommendations for varying aspects of personalization and customization:
- Improve personalization efforts to reach more teens and serve up more resources or suggested content based on user location and personalization attributes (i.e regional location, demographics, gender etc...)
- Identify new product ideas aligned with our core goals that leverage algorithms, such as a helpful chatbot for teens to speak with at the end of the game who need to talk and find resources near them.
- Create meaningful new insights and data that show game impact
- Suggest helpful game algorithm trends or potential predictive strategies to use at a future dates we grow.
- Additional opportunities for customization of game elements such as avatar color changes, or custom audio/song choices.
Students will connect directly with the employer for mentorship and supervision throughout the project. We will onboard all students with a dive into our work, past research and add them to our internal communications tools including Slack and Asana. We will set up weekly or bi weekly zoom calls via Studio Jayne CEO and where relevant, other employees and partners will join. In order to share specific data, we may ask students sign an NDA to provide access to proprietary data on a needs basis.
