On Saturday, 29 Mar 1884, delegates from the Toronto YC, Royal Canadian YC, Oswego YC & Bay of Quinte YC met at the Queens Hotel Toronto, voting their clubs to become the charter members of the Lake Yacht Racing Association.

LYRA is the oldest association of yacht clubs on the continent and we are bi-national.

Today, the annual LYRA regatta brings together yachts from around Lake Ontario & adjacent waters for almost a full week of intensive & exciting racing. The event is truly international, giving U. S. & Canadian sailors opportunities to compete and establish strong friendships.

Key objectives of LYRA:
1 To serve and represent yachting interests on Association Waters
2 To encourage the sport & art of sailing & sportsmanship among sailors, both at the junior & senior levels
3 To contribute good will between Canada & the United States
4 To encourage participation activities of national & regional sailing authorities of both Canada & the US
5 To support the interests of member clubs
