business-to-consumer business to business timelines non-disclosure agreement (intellectual property law) management brakes research advertisementThe problem: Global Sensor Systems (GSS) is going B2B with distributors who build commercial vehicles and sell truck parts and accessories. We will continue to sell directly to major cities like the City of Toronto (B2C), but want to focus our resources on creating a trusted distributor network- but where?
The solution: We need to do research to better understand the US market so we can penetrate it with confidence!
-
- Channel Partners
- Competitive Landscape
- Intellectual property challenges
- Entry mode Strategy
- Location choice (Short term goal, to target 5 states with the most distributors/fleets/backing accidents. Long term goal, to have one distributor in almost every state. Future of the company is to one day have a US headquarters).
- Sourcing of Suppliers
The outcome: To have a strategy and plan to follow with clear timelines and SMART goals.
Activities:
- Channel Partners- distributors, who are they
- Competitive Landscape- fleet management is HUGE. is there anyone else doing the automatic braking systems? Not to our knowledge...can you do some detective work?
- Intellectual property challenges- We are looking at partnerships, our product is very much intellectual property. We have a corporate lawyer, we have an NDA- but how do we stop people trying to break our system apart to try and copy it?
- Entry mode Strategy- Distributors- how do we get their attention, trade shows? print ads, social media?
- Location choice (Short term goal, to target 5 states with the most distributors/fleets/backing accidents. Long term goal, to have one distributor in almost every state. Future of the company is to one day have a US headquarters).
- Sourcing of Suppliers- would it be an advantage to source our supplies from America so we can call ourselves "American Made"?
Staff time:
Director of Marketing (Caroline)- 3 days a week, 9-5 email, phone, zoom, text.
Access to tools: I don't think we have any tools.
Tech/ Data.: Any data we have on competitors, statistics, product details, market research, is available when requested
We hope to communicate with the students regularly!
About the company
We manufacture the only automatic braking system preventing backing accidents for commercial vehicles. New cars today have them built in, but not large vehicles like haulers and garbage trucks. Backing accidents are the number one type of accident in the waste management industry because the larger the vehicle, the bigger the blind spots. Sure cameras and sensors are great, but they don't compensate for driver reaction time or distracted driving. Our company has been run by a small team of 2 for 45 years. Help us reach the next level of awesomeness! Help us keep drivers and their communities safe!
