Student goals and capabilities

I would like our students to work on projects looking at Competitive Pressures and Management as part of a business expansion, especially an international expansion.

Saskatchewan exports a lot to other provinces, primarily grain and other raw materials. This is predominantly kept within Canada so we would like for students to get exposure to some of the pressures involved in expanding into international markets, including the US and further afield.

Some key factors we cover in the course and the students have a good understand of:

  1. The importance of international expansion as a viable diversification strategy.
    1. Factors that make competing across national borders more complex.
    2. The advantages and disadvantages associated with each of the four basic strategies used to expand internationally.
    3. The various ways to expand internationally.
