Bring on students from Trinity Western University to be your virtual interns. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the practicum period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Students in this program have gained the skills to work within the field of media and communication and are poised to succeed in the integrated work areas of: graphic design, social media marketing, journalism, public relations, advertising, and other communicative roles to help your organization meet its goals.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.
Students
Employers set the goals of the project with the student to determine the scope, goals, and deliverables.
Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the practicum. However, these deliverables must be discussed and agreed upon prior to the start of the practicum.
Deliverables will depend on the employer and project types. Results fall in the categories of writing, visual media (graphic design, photography), film and video production, interpersonal aspects such as team training and coordination.
Project Examples
Requirements
Project activities might include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluating the various media forms, and identifications of their use.
- Exploring direct marketing and Internet, as well as other media and communication vehicles.
- Understanding and highlighting global communications considerations and issues.
- Addressing social, ethical and economic issues and aspects of communications planning.
- Recommending changes to advertising and PR materials for improved the consistency across your organization’s existing marketing campaign.
- Pitch a marketing campaign for a new product or service.
- Pitch a social media or new media campaign to complement existing marketing communications.
Areas where students want to focus their skills are:
- Visual communication (e.g. graphic design, web content creation, magazines, photography, etc.)
- Mass media (e.g. television, radio, film, video, magazines, and newspapers)
- Business and professional written communication (e.g. public relations, technical writing, report and proposal writing, advertising copy, etc.)
- Interpersonal communication (e.g. counseling, leadership opportunities, coaching, cross-cultural experiences)
- Public address (e.g. speaking)
