Student goals and capabilities

Undergraduates enrolled in a human resource management course as part of their Science, Business and Entrepreneurship minor will work in 4-5 person teams to solve a pressing global environmental challenge -,adapting research in STEM to HR practices. Integrating the latest scientific research with their learning in the course on human resource management, students will create audience specific and culturally relevant ways to communicate the scientific research on the environment relevant to the public, to farmers, to agro business owners, or to other students like themselves. Students can create products or services based on the latest scientific research in Chemistry, Biology or other environmental science research relevant for a particular human community.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

--Make a 15 minute team presentation with speaker notes

--Presentation will have references to the latest scientific research from the University of Toronto's extensive library databases

--Speaker notes will have detailed explanations of the scientific research being applied to solve a particular environmental challenge to soil or water

Requirements

--Develop strategies to disseminate complex environmental safety research to public and daily users of soil or water in Canada and countries in the Global South like Sri Lanka, Ghana, India

--Develop culturally relevant and audience specific resources (e.g., folksongs, advertisements) for users of environmental research to engender behavioral change in farmers, students or other users of soil or water in Canada and countries in the Global South.
